The Lord’s Word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him. Psalm 18:30

My son, Mason, was in the Middle School production of Madagascar, Junior this past weekend. During the months of rehearsals leading up to it, he kept complaining that there was too much singing and dancing, and not enough acting. Consequently, he and his friend had decided they wouldn’t be doing drama next year.

Production week and Mason getting “The Book” changed everything.

Apparently, years ago, a student brought a journal to production week and gave it to another student. Inside, she had written about all the ways that student had inspired her. She asked the student to pass it on. So began a wonderful tradition of students recognizing and showing gratitude for the amazing qualities in each other.

Over the years, an immense reverence has grown for “The Book.” Additionally, it was established that you can only receive it once in your entire Middle School career. Mason received it on Saturday.

Receiving it as a sixth grader is HUGE! Not only was the giver an eighth grade girl, but she was one of the lead actors in the play. Reading how she thought Mason was an inspiration blew him away, and lifted him higher than I’ve ever seen him. Receiving “The Book” from her filled his soul.

I know where he’s coming from. I have a book of my own that fills my soul. As I sit daily with my Bible, I’m blown away by God’s deep love for us all. The more I spend time in His Word, the more personal it becomes to me. It’s as if God has tucked love letters in between the lines, written directly to me, exactly where I’m at, exactly when I need them. After just a mere fifteen minutes of reading His Word each day, I’m lifted higher, no matter what’s going on in my life.

Mason is now fully and completely committed to drama, and can’t wait for next year’s play. On my part, I’m fully and completely committed to Scripture. I can’t wait for my prayer time each day to get my daily dose of wisdom, inspiration, and renewal.
