“Peace I leave with you; my piece I give you.” John 14:27

While on retreat in Massachusetts a few weeks ago, I went to the local church, one I’ve never been to before. It was breathtaking with its cathedral-like spires and ornate altar. There were probably three hundred people at Mass. Not bad for an early Sunday morning.
Although there was so much to admire in the stunning stained-glass windows, it was the seven-year-old boy with bedhead that really got my attention.

Yes, Claire, we can rely on Jesus to manifest His Loving presence each day in unexpected and always humble ways. Such a reminder, especially in this Advent season, of one place we’re sure to find Him … in a small boy with “bed head” who waited patiently for the response of the unaware woman, until she finally woke up to receive his loving handshake. How I wish I’d been there too to grasp that sacred little hand. A convincing truth of God’s faithful promise to us, Emmanuel, God with us. And you, Claire, didn’t miss the moment and that reality of His Presence to share with each of us!

I tried to comment over on CM but I am not sure it went through. Thanks for sharing that beautiful story. He really is Jesus and what a gift that child is to his congregation and all who interact with him. He is a symbol of kindness and love. This was beautifully written Claire!
