Holy Anticipation

He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:2-3

When The Spirit Takes Over

From early morning until evening, he expounded his position to them, bearing witness to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus from the law of Moses and the prophets.  Acts 28:23

My husband, John, created an amazing Couch to 5K program that he coaches every spring. Twice a week, for ten weeks, he leads over 100 people who want to move from their couch to actually running a 5K race on 4th of July morning. He always starts the sessions with great little speeches that teach the nitty-gritty of running: what clothes and sneakers to wear, how much food and water to have before running, how to stretch out before and after, etc.

He’s just as talented in his professional life. The only skill he lacks is organization. So when I started working for him a few years ago, my primary roll was to organize him in his professional life, and in his running club volunteer work.

For his Couch to 5K program, I wanted to map out all his speeches so he didn’t have to reinvent the wheel every year. He didn’t want me to. Not understanding why, I’ve been passively-aggressively trying to have it may way ever since. Continue reading

Letting The Dead Horse Be

He took them in at that hour of the night and bathed their wounds; then he and all his family were baptized at once. Acts 16:33

Out of Sync

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1

5.10.18 with word overlayWhen Mason, and then Jocelyn, first started taking piano lessons, they were so focused on playing the music notes right, they gave no thought to the timing. A whole-note sounded exactly the same as a half-note, the same as a quarter-note, etc.

Needless to say, the songs didn’t sound right. I couldn’t even recognize the old standards like “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” because their timing was so off. I really thought my kids had no rhythm. However, the more they practiced, the more they were able to play the correct notes with the correct timing.

The process is an awful lot like motherhood. Continue reading

We Were Chosen

“It was not you who chose Me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain…” John 15:16

Gospel-Reflections-800x800-gold-outlineI was shocked to find out I wasn’t one of those women who could get pregnant on demand. Instead, it took years of tears, prayers, and miscarriages to build our family of three beautiful children. That struggled helped me to see things differently. Continue reading
